Bringing Hope and Healing: A Medical Mission to Rural Nepal

Dr. Chee recently participated in a medical mission to Dhussa in the Gorkha region of Nepal, organized in collaboration with Karuna Medical International and Kyimolung Foundation Nepal from January 11 to 13, 2026.
The mission brought together over 50 volunteers, including approximately 40 members from Singapore and local Nepalese doctors and healthcare workers. The team provided medical consultations, treatments, and surgical procedures to underserved communities in this remote area.
On one memorable morning, the local mayor and his team visited the medical camp, greeting the volunteers with traditional flower garlands. With support from local translators and the health post team, the medical team treated 174 patients that day, including performing 9 surgical procedures.
Throughout the week-long mission, Dr. Chee focused primarily on hand surgeries, while the team collectively served between 700 to 800 patients. The collaboration between international volunteers and local healthcare providers demonstrated the impact of medical cooperation in addressing healthcare gaps in rural communities.
The mission highlighted the importance of using medical expertise to serve those in need, with the dedication of local healthcare teams and translators proving instrumental in delivering quality care across language and cultural barriers.
